These instructions apply to inserting live video into PowerPoint.  An active Internet connection is required.

There are limitations within PowerPoint; the best experience is obtained using Microsoft Web Viewer with the IE11 or Edge browser and Windows 8.1 or higher.  The idea is to add a Web Browser control in PowerPoint and play the ArcLearn video URL which is copied from the course’s detail page, video tab.

Using Microsoft Web Viewer
The preferred approach and requires PowerPoint 2013 with service pack 1 or better.  Prerequisites: To use this add-in, you’ll need Internet Explorer 9 with the latest security updates or later and one of these applications: PowerPoint 2013 Service Pack 1 or later, PowerPoint Online, or PowerPoint for iPad.

Install the add-on: go to https://store.office.com/en-US/web-viewer-WA104295828.aspx.  Follow the instructions which will require your Microsoft Live ID and password.

To insert the video into PowerPoint, click on INSERT then My APPS.  If Web Viewer is not displayed, select See All.  Click on Web Viewer to insert the control into the slide.  In ArcLearn, go to the course detail page for your selected video.  Open the Videos tab at the bottom. Select the Full Length Video or Video Clip (see the drop down arrow) depending on your video requirement.  Click on Copy URL.  Paste the URL where specified into PowerPoint, but remove the “https://” as this is assumed by the page.  Use the Preview button to verify your actions.

Using LiveWeb
LiveWeb is a free add-in for PowerPoint (through version 2013) that lets you display web pages live in your PowerPoint slides. In fact, LiveWeb is like embedding a full browser in your PowerPoint presentation because you can interact with web pages as if they were opened in a real browser – all the links on web pages stay intact and live.

To obtain and install LiveWeb, go to http://skp.mvps.org/liveweb.htm.  Select either version (one for PowerPoint 2007 and newer; the other for PowerPoint 2003).  Install the PowerPoint Add-In using the instructions in the downloaded zip file.  If you need additional help, try googling “liveweb”; there are many sources to assist you.

Inserting your Video
In ArcLearn, go to the course detail page for your selected video.  Open the Videos tab at the bottom. Select the Full Length Video or Video Clip (see the drop down arrow) depending on your video requirement.  Click on Copy URL.  Note: in IE8, you will need to highlight and copy the URL.

In PowerPoint, click on the Insert tab.  Click on Web Page in the LiveWeb control area to start the LiveWeb wizard.  Paste the URL into the LiveWeb window when so prompted.  Follow instructions from the wizard. Use the Slide Show to preview the video.

LiveWeb issue with Office 2013 and later
Message: "This ActiveX control cannot be inserted"

PowerPoint 2013 blocks the web browser control from being inserted which prevents LiveWeb from functioning normally. Please visit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2793374 to resolve this issue. The alerts sound scary, but this is the only way that it will work.

You must run the REGEDIT with Administrator Privileges and find the relevant CLASSID from the Microsoft support page.  Actually, the only one CLASSID that is required is for Web Browser Control is {8856F961-340A-11D0-A96B-00C04FD705A2}.  A reboot may be necessary.
